Reliability of ESE Air Terminals
With this latest standard, ESE Air Terminals (ESEAT) have to pass through much more convincing and difficult tests. These tests ensure that ESE Air Terminals will be tested in the laboratory environment to meet the challenges of natural conditions.
ESEAT now must pass the following tests;
Marking tests
Size tests
Environmental condition tests
100 kA current Withstanding test
Early Streamer Emission tests
A very important point is that there is no such difficult and rigid standard for any lightning protection system other than ESE Air Terminals.
These requirements support the reliability of ESE Air Terminals.
In the latest version of the NFC 17-102 Standard (2011), the requirements for ESE Air Terminals have been significantly enhanced.
ADVANTAGES:
If the protected area is a hazardous area, the air terminal can be installed outside this area.
Multiple structures can be protected with a single air terminal.
Economical.
It can protect the structure with its surroundings.
Provides protection in open areas.
Can be integrated seamlessly into building structure.
Easy to install Economical.
Can be integrated seamlessly to building structure.
Protects the structure by reducing the electromagnetic radiation effects of lightning.
Distributes the lightning current to the ground with multiple down conductors.
Protects the structure by reducing the electromagnetic radiation effects of lightning.
Distributes the lightning current to the ground with multiple down conductors.
Provides protection in open areas.
DISADVANTAGES:
Minimum air terminal height is 2 meters
The mechanical strength is limited by the structure of the bar used
Only provides limited protection to protect small structures
The mechanical strength is limited by the structure of the bar used
Installation is complex and expensive
Mostly it is not aesthetic in terms of the integrity of the structure
Tensioned cables may be dangerous to touch in areas where lifting equipment is used
Installation is complex and expensive
Mostly it is not aesthetic in terms of the integrity of the structure
